Trello vs. Evernote

Trello vs Evernote

Task and project management are essential in many types of work. There are several programs to manage tasks, and two of those are Trello and Evernote.

For a new team, the article Trello vs. Evernote will help you choose between the two.

What are both

Trello

How Trello Works

Trello is a task-management app to create and follow tasks. It’s not like an ordinary app where you create and complete tasks.

Trello uses Kanban-style boards that track a task’s progress in different phases.

For example, if you write content, you can use Trello to track its journey (in progress, proofread, images, and published).

You can use Trello for any project that has phases and tasks.

Here is more on the idea:

Trello has workspaces and boards.

Workspaces are for separating different work types (personal, workplace one, workplace two, etc.)

Boards are like projects. Those are added to workspaces.

On the board interface, you add lists. Those can be project stages (planning, developing, testing, etc.).

Under each list, you add cards. Those are the tasks.

You can add members to specific boards so they can work on tasks.

Users that have access to a board can be assigned to specific cards.

Each card has multiple options, including a checklist, attachments, labels, dates, and power-ups.

Evernote

Evernote Overview

Evernote is your note-taking app, but it offers more features than many note-keeping apps making it one of the most popular.

Along with notes, you can create lists, tables, and other things.

Platforms

Both are available for modern platforms as well as browsers. Both can be accessed on:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

You can also install Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. However, most of the integrations only work with desktop applications.

Team options

In this round of Trello vs. Evernote, we discover the team options. Trello offers to add users to a board and cards. The tool can email an invitation link or create a link to share in other apps.

Either way, you can invite members with these roles:

  • Members with access to view and edit
  • Observers who can only view boards

Users can be added to cards for better project management. You can also add users to a particular card from other workspaces.

Evernote, in contrast, offers to invite people to write notes. You can share the note with edit and invite permissions, edit-only, and view-only permissions.

Templates

Getting Things Done Trello Template

Templates are pre-made projects to copy and use for your projects. Trello templates are created by users and are free to use.

The tool offers over 240 templates split into many categories. If interested, check out my guide on the best Trello template in each category.

Evernote has over 50 templates that can help in creating the perfect note. I have also researched some great Evernote templates.

Integrations

Trello comes with integrations and power-ups. You get over 250 apps, including cloud storage, note-taking, forms, and communication platforms.

Evernote can be linked with Trello as an integration. The complete list can be found on the website.

Trello also has automation. You need to set them up, but you can automate the repeated tasks and do multiple things in one click.

For example, I move a newly created card to the top of the list by clicking on the custom-created button.

Evernote comes with a few integrations:

  • Gmail
  • Outlook
  • Google Drive
  • Slack
  • Microsoft Teams

The official page details each app and what can be achieved.

Pricing

Trello vs Evernote
Pricing and plans

Both offer a free plan which is more than enough for individuals. However, in some cases, you need more options, which is where premium subscriptions come into place.

Both are subscription-based tools where you pay monthly or yearly, and both come with multiple plans to suit your needs.

Trello’s free plan supports up to 10 free boards, unlimited cards and members, and a 10 MB max file upload limit.

It comes in two paid subscriptions: Standard and Premium.

The Standard plan costs $6 per month or $5 if paid annually. You get unlimited boards and storage, custom fields, 1,000 workspace commands per month, and saved searches.

The Premium package costs $10 per month in the annual plan and $12.5 monthly.

The plan includes unlimited workspace commands, enhanced security, data export, and advanced customer support.

Evernote has two standard paid plans. The free package brings a 60 MB monthly file upload limit, a 25 MB maximum note size, and online-only access.

Individuals pay $8.99 monthly ($6.67 annually) for the Personal plan that brings:

  • 10 GB monthly uploads
  • Unlimited devices
  • 200 MB note size
  • Offline access

The Professional charges $10.99 monthly ($9.17 annually) and includes the below options:

  • 20 GB monthly upload limit
  • Assign tasks to others
  • Geographic search
  • Export notebooks as PDF files

Which one is for you

Trello is a project management app, and Evernote is a note-taking program. It depends on your work type.

If you want a solid management program to create, assign, follow, and complete tasks, go with Trello.

If you want a note-keeping and documentation app with a project management touch, go with Evernote.

I have been using both for a long time and feel both tools can work together efficiently.
