I’m an anime fan, and you are here means that you are one too. I know it’s not easy to find a reliable streaming service.
However, don’t stress, as I have made this list of the best anime apps to watch anime without any problems.
Some services are free, while some ask for subscriptions, but you will get something valuable from this list.
Tubi TV
Titles: US: 180 to 220 | Canada: 160 to 180 | Australia: 15 to 25
Availability: US, Canada, Australia, and Mexico
Cost: Completely free
I have known Tubi for a long time. The free movie streaming app has many anime shows. If you live in the US, you can expect over 200.
Tubi TV is geo-blocked, but you can use a VPN to access the US content.
You can create a free account to sync history if you watch on multiple platforms. The service shows in-between ads, but they are not annoying, and you don’t see them often.
Crunchyroll
Titles: Over 1500 in the US
Availability: Over 150 nations (content location dependent)
Cost: Freemium
Hands down, the best anime streaming platform right now is Crunchyroll. You will find almost every anime show here.
I remember the days when Crunchyroll, Funimation, and AnimeLab were separate services. Today, all three are one, so you can imagine the amount of shows it has.
The service is available in over 170 nations, but one must use a VPN with a US server to see its full potential.
You can find shows, including Perfect Insider, Ore Monogatari, and My Hero Academia.
The platform focuses on the subtitles, so you might have to read the subtitles as you go, but you don’t need an account to watch for free, which makes it a great place.
Funimation
Titles: 800 to 900 in the US
Availability: A handful of nations mentioned below
Cost: Freemium
Funimation is another of the best anime apps because it’s fast, has an intensive library, and is available in multiple countries.
However, I would consider you to try Crunchyroll because both will merge in a short time. Funimation is available in
- United States
- Canada
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Ireland
- New Zealand
- Brazil
- Mexico
It has the license for some popular series, including Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, and Fairy Tail.
You can watch the ad-supported videos for free, and it comes in three different plans starting from $6 per month.

CONtv
Titles: 60 to 70
Availability: Multiple regions
Cost: Freemium
CONtv is one of the best anime apps right now. The app is available in the US, Canada, Australia, India, and other countries.
It comes with plenty of options to watch for free, but the video player is slow and buggy.
It shows three to four video ads when you watch a video, but overall, if you are looking for a free service to watch anime in your free time, CONtv might be something to keep on the list.
The service comes with a paid monthly plan starting from $7 to unlock premium content.
Best Anime Apps: VRV
Titles: Over 1500
Availability: US only
Cost: Freemium
If you are in the US, you must try VRV. VRV is where to find the whole Crunchyroll and some other services.
It has Crunchyroll, Mondo, and VRV Select. The best part is that it costs $2 more than Crunchyroll.
Moreover, the app has over 20,000 hours of content, including anime, if you want free stuff.
While you are here: Crunchyroll or VRV
Crackle
Titles: Fewer than 100
Availability: Limited locations
Cost: Free ad-supported
Crackle is another one of the free anime apps offering collections to watch.
The app has all the genres, so we see fewer anime titles, but it has a free ad-supported video player that does not distract much.
I have been watching anime on Crackle for a few days, and I love it. However, the problem is that it’s not available everywhere.
You can check out the website, and if it’s offered in your region, you will see the homepage. Otherwise, it will throw an error.
Reelgood
Titles: 680
Availability: US and UK
Cost: Free (subscription may be required)
Reelgood itself is not a streaming platform; it’s a service to find where your favorite show or movie is available. It supports over 100 services, including:
- Prime Video
- Netflix
- Hulu
- Crunchyroll
- Funimation
- TVision
- Tubi
If the searched anime is offered on any of the services, Reelgood shows it on their website, which you can then watch on your subscribed platform with one click.
Reelgood is free and shows ads, but you can remove those ads by creating a free Reelgood account.
Netflix
Titles: 300 to 400 in the US
Availability: Multiple regions (content region dependent)
Cost: Premium
Netflix is premium but accessible in many countries. Along with thousands of movies, it offers anime.
Although the current catalog might not be fulfilling, Netflix has acquired rights for Studio Ghibli (a Japanese film studio), so you will see more animes soon.
Amazon Prime Video
Titles: Over 2000 (according to the official page)
Availability: Multiple regions (content region dependent)
Cost: Premium
Not sure how big the service is, but the official page says, “Browse from over 2,000 animes”. If that’s true, this is the most extended list of shows.
Amazon Prime Video is a premium service, and you get so much content. They regularly add new movies and shows, so you never feel full.
The service is available in the US, UK, Australia, and India. The plan starts from $9 per month.
Hulu
Titles: 250 to 300
Availability: US only
Cost: Premium
Hulu is another premium service for watching anime. It is only available in the US, but it has content including:
- Attack on Titan
- My Hero Academia
- Black Clover
- Elfen Lied
- K-On!
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
- Girls Und Panzer
- Death Note
- Your Lie in April
- Danganronpa
Furthermore, you can use a VPN, but you must also purchase a subscription. Instead, I recommend checking out Crunchyroll or Netflix.
HIDIVE
Titles: 500 to 600
Availability: US and some other regions
Cost: Premium
HIDIVE used to be in the VRV subscription, but it’s not anymore. The service is specially developed for animes. You get subbed and dubbed while simulcast shows are also available.
HIDIVE is available in the US, but some/all content is available in other countries, including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. The service only costs $5 per month.
Mubi
Titles: Unknown
Availability: US and other regions
Cost: Premium
The last one of the best anime apps is Mubi. From social media to a streaming service, Mubi has been in the business for a long time. You will find plenty of good animes to watch.
Furthermore, users have created many playlists for you to find relevant content. Mubi TV also comes with a live option where something is always playing.
The only problem is that the service is more focused on movies, while the subscription costs $11 per month, which is a bit expensive.
